Résumé : It is an interesting and difficult problem to determine what torsion can occur in the local integral intersection cohomology of Schubert varieties. This has connections to modular representation theory (Lusztig conjecture, James conjecture), singularity theory, and D-module theory (reducibility of characteristic cycles). I will describe a general procedure for producing many new examples of torsion, which implies that the torsion grows at least exponentially in the rank. This is an overview based on work partly joint with Elias, He, Kontorovich and McNamara.
